Telectroscope
I recall reading about a performance by the Royal de Luxe during the Jules Verne festival in Nantes, France celebrating the 100th Anniversary of Jules Verne’s novel “Around the World in Eighty Days”.
The performance included these giant marionette style creations that were controlled by dozens of operators. Check out this fantastic video…
More recently I heard about the Sultan’s Elephant performance in London by the same group, using many of the same elements.
Now comes the the story of The Telectroscope, A Viewing Tunnel Between London & New York.
Hardly anyone knows that a secret tunnel runs deep beneath the Atlantic Ocean. In May 2008, more that a century after it was begun, the tunnel will finally be completed. Immediately afterwards, an extraordinary optical device called a Telectroscope will be installed at both ends which will miraculously allow people to see right through the Earth from London to New York and vice versa.
A project by Paul St. George, it is employing the Artichoke creative company who were instrumental in producing The Sultan’s Elephant.
This performance is occurring from May 22nd to June 15th. The first sign of the telectroscope has already appeared in London yesterday in the form of this huge drill bit…

And another in Brooklyn

Considering that The Sultan’s Elephant began innocuously enough with a simple pod in the city center

And then evolved to something like this:

I would expect this performance to be QUITE interesting….
Now I want to go to London or New York to see this performance unfold….

This is gonna be so fucking cool! I love Royal de Luxe!
Steampunk as fuck!
Tempting to dash over to London for this; dunno if I can manage, though.
[...] Telectroscope has emerged. See my previous post for [...]
